Carrier Transicold has secured an order from Netherlands-based TITAN Containers for OptimaLINE™ units pre-charged with low-GWP refrigerant R-1234yf and NaturaLINE® systems using CO₂. Shipments will originate from Carrier's Singapore production site. This delivery aligns with EU F-Gas regulation compliance and enables operators to accelerate deployment through factory-charged units and ISO-compliant refrigerant handling. Carrier also conducted operator training on the safe use of R-1234yf and NaturaLINE systems for TITAN's international teams.
Background
EU Regulation (EU) 2024/573 imposes stricter limits on fluorinated refrigerants. From 2025, servicing with virgin refrigerants with a GWP ≥ 2500 will be prohibited; by 2032, the threshold tightens to GWP ≥ 750 for stationary systems. The regulation targets climate-neutral refrigeration by 2050. Transport refrigeration faces mounting regulatory pressure due to high leakage rates and operational complexity, accelerating the transition to natural or ultra-low-GWP refrigerants, including CO₂ and R-1234yf. Use of reclaimed high-GWP refrigerants remains permitted under limited conditions until 2030.
Details
Carrier's OptimaLINE units feature triple-refrigerant capability and are shipped pre-charged with R-1234yf for immediate installation, reduced commissioning time, and compliance with A2L safety classifications. NaturaLINE units use R-744 (CO₂), with a GWP of 1, a multi-stage compressor, variable-speed drive, and UL-verified recyclability of 95 percent. These technical features deliver efficient performance, standard controls, and compliance with evolving environmental standards.
Carrier provided technical training in multiple countries to TITAN's teams, addressing the safe operation and maintenance of both system types. Lukas Bentsson, COO at TITAN Containers, stated that transitioning the fleet to low-GWP refrigerants reduces environmental impact and maintains operational reliability. Kay Henze, Carrier Transicold's global container account manager, emphasized that Carrier's support includes comprehensive customer training throughout the equipment lifecycle.
Outlook
Deployment of these units positions TITAN Containers ahead of upcoming F-Gas regulation deadlines and reinforces broader cold-chain decarbonization efforts. The sector is expected to accelerate adoption of low-GWP, factory-charged refrigeration systems designed for regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and safety.
